Some of the best travel values today are found online. Here are some general guidelines for headache-free on-line honeymoon planning:
- Don't be afraid-just careful. People use the Internet to plan trips every day. The vast majority never has a problem. That said, take the same elementary precautions you would with any other Internet transaction: be sure you have a secure connection, don't share your passwords, etc.
- Be organized. Devote a small notebook strictly to your honeymoon, and keep track of every confirmation code you're given. (This will make dealing with any changes or concerns much easier.) Also, record dates, times, phone numbers, addresses and other vital travel info.
- Research. Web research allows you to get official information on room options, pricing, special packages and promotions. Also, you can scan travel-related bulletin boards or chat rooms for real-life experiences of actual travelers. Even if you are uncomfortable making an Internet reservation, you can often do all your research on-line before you call or write. This saves time on the phone, because you'll know what you want when you talk to the reservationist.
- Call to confirm. When you book a flight or hotel room on-line, call the next day to make sure the reservation went through. This is a good time to ask for seat assignments, upgrades and mention it's your honeymoon (you never know what free perks you'll get!) If the Web site doesn't provide a phone number, don't take a chance--choose another site for your travel arrangements.
Now you’re ready to start your honeymoon search…
Internet style!
